Coffee machines first arrived around 1901 when an Italian businessman named Luigi Bezzera patented a design for a coffee machine. In 1905, Desidero Pavoni bought the patent from Bezzera and after looking closely at the process, discovered that coffee was best brewed at a pressure of 8-9 bar, and at a temperature of 90 °C. This was the birth of the espresso coffee machine.

The coffee pod machine obviously came a little latter as a result of a partnership between Philips the electronics giant and Douwe Egberts a European coffee supplier that has a history dating back to 1753 and is now part of the Sarah Lee corporation, and is now the second larges coffee roasting company in the world.
The coffee pod machine is a modern method of brewing the perfect cup of coffee invented in 2001 by Philips and Douwe Egberts and famously made its UK debut at Harrods in London when shoppers were invited to step inside the famous store window and experience a cup of coffee produced by the new machine made by Philips and using coffee pods made by Douwe Egberts.
Coffee has a history that can be traced back as far as 1000 AD. Its introduction to the West is somewhere around 1600 and since then it has become a part of daily life in many countries.
